With pictures of children I can have one of the parents hold it for me, but if I'm doing a family picture, there will be no one. Does anyone have any solutions on what I can use to hold it up in these circumstances?

then develop it in a very short span of time - usually less than 20 minutes.
That means that you can forget about taking a quick series of photos: Once
you've prepared your plate, you have to run and take your photo, run back,
develop it, and see how it turned out. If you messed up, you've wasted 20
minutes, and you have to start over again from scratch.
