It's an entry level camera, so will probably suit you as a beginner.
Couple of points:
- It won't zoom whilst you are taking a video. That feature costs more and is often absent from even quite expensive compact cameras.
- Be prepared for it to eat batteries. It will be worth investing in quality and high-capacity rechargeable Ni-MH batteries and a quick charger. Mine is an Ansmann, which I recommend - they have a wide choice.
