What's a rangefinder?
What's the difference between a digital rangefinder and a digital slr besides the lenses?
Does the rangefinder have the same function as in shutter/aperture/whitebalance/iso/focal length settings as an slr?
Is a digital rangefinder same as a digital point and shoot but with extra settings?
The difference is in the design of the camera body itself...
In an SLR type camera, the image passes through the lens, and strikes a mirror, reflecting it up and into the "pentaprism", which in turn reflects the image onto the focusing sceen so you can see it in the viewfinder. In essence you see exactly what the lens sees. When you release the shutter, the mirror flips up out of the way, and the image passes through to the film plane. This is why when you take a picture with a SLR camera, the veiwfinder "blacks out" for the duration of the exposure.
A range finder design has a separate viewfinder, so in essence you are not looking "through" the lens. Typically in the veiwfinder of a range finder design, there are compositional frame lines, which will approximate the image capture area, based on the focal length of the lens you are using. There are different sets of lines for each focal length. Rangefinder designs are hailed for there easy critical focusing, because they employ a split image focusing aide. This means when the subject is not in focus, there will be two of it, and the closer you get to being in focus, the better the two images will overlap. When there is only one image in the veiwfinder, your spot on focused.
The composing of the image when using a rangefinder design can take some getting used to, especially if your previous experience is with a SLR design, simply because you have to estimate the actual image capture area. However, you do not get the "black out" in the viewfinder when you take the picture, which sometimes is a very useful feature.
Digital or film they are two different breeds of camera design, and no a rangefinder is nothing like a P@S, with extra settings. You can change the lens on a rangefinder.

Leica's new M9-P digital rangefinder taps the till at $7,995 -- the same price
the original M9 commanded when it was released in 2009 -- but you don't stay
in the business of making pricey cameras for nearly a century without doing
something right. The new version adds a virtually unbreakable sapphire crystal
covering on the LCD, produced using diamond cutting tools, and an anti-
reflective coating. The body includes a vulcanite leatherette body finish, for
a more secure grip, but curiously lacks the familiar red Leica logo and M9
lettering on the front, in line with the camera's elegant "minimalist
styling." Beyond that, the P includes the same full-frame 18 megapixel sensor
featured on the M9, an "almost silent" shutter, and is compatible with Leica's
full range of astronomically expensive M lenses. The M9-P will be available in
black or chrome for $7,995 beginning next month, or $15,990 for two -- since
we know you're planning to buy both.
