Getting The Most From Things Around The Home
Recycling is a big deal these days and we are always being encouraged to do more. plastic containers and cardboard items can be recycled with relative ease as lots of people have separate bins for this stuff or can drop it off at a recycling centre in town. Larger items are another issue however, and we don't really get told what to do with these. Things like chairs, windows and kitchen units usually find their way to the tip and often get destroyed. Right now people are not only watching what they spend more, but also concerning themselves with the state of the planet, so here are a few tips to aid home recycling.
Wood Items. Lots of people are very quick to get rid of their old chest of draws or bookshelf without taking some time to consider if they still have some use. Its pretty easy to attach a couple of kitchen cupboard units together and place them on the floor to make a fun coffee table that looks a bit different. This creates a box like coffee table and by leaving the hinges on the doors they can open up and can act as storage space. You can also use wood to make lots of little things such as door stops and chopping boards and even wine racks
Glassware. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to be an expert in glass melting in order to reuse an old glass. Glasses can be used to pot house plants, store knick-knacks in, and even create feature walls with if you’ve got the time to make it. If you put a little thought into it first, you need never have to throw another glass away.
Furniture. This is one of the hardest things to recycle and I’m not saying that you will be able to make tableware out of your old sofa, but sometimes there is scope to get a few more years out of items you thought were at the end of their life. If items have exhausted their use in the home, they can often be put to good use in the garden. As long as you protect the furniture from the outdoor conditions with good varnish, you can enjoy old tables and chairs in the fresh air for a long time. You might also be able to use old carpet to kneel on whilst tending to garden or to line the floor of the shed with.
How can I replace the fuel door lid opener lever in my 2005 Nissan Altima?
I stepped on it by accident and it snapped. It's the kind that sits next to the driver seat that you pull to open the fuel door lid to put gas in. Is there somewhere that I could get a new lever and replace it myself? Or would I be better off taking it to the dealer? Any idea how much that would cost to fix?
That all depends... if you snapped the cable when you broke the lever you are better off to take it to the dealer and have it fixed... Mine broke under warranty and it was a rough job for even the Nissan Master Tech to swap out.
If you just broke the plastic off of the lever you could easily find one at a salvage yard... ask them if you can remove it from the vehicle yourself, that way you know how it comes off, to make it easy to out back on.
I just saw a repair order come through on warranty for a Nissan Versa that needed one and it was about $300.
But it was more labor intensive because the dash has to be removed in those.
I reccomend calling the dealership and see what they would charge you for parts and labor to replace it,,,,, and get your estimate in writing!
Hope that helps!
End of the Crafting Year (MarthaStewartsCraftBlog)
One of my favorite things to do in this last week of the year is to sit down
with a mug of eggnog and organize all my craft supplies that got out of hand
over the past 11 months. If you're like me, you've likely accumulated a bunch
of fun supplies, salvaged things you will ...
