Cameras And USM (Ultrasonic Motors)

Ever wondered what the USM characteristic means and what benefits does it give to your lens?

The Ultrasonic Motor is a pocket-size motor that can be found in a lens. Autofocusing with the USM is quieter than if you focused using a regular AF motor. The USM is connected to the gears within the lens controls the focusing mechanisms. This is found in most canon lenses, such as the canon ef 50mm series (eg canon 50mm 1.4), and most L lenses. USMs are relatively faster than regular AF motors. This makes USMs useful in different shoots.

So what is an example of a camera that has the USM feature?

One camera that works really well with the USM feature is the canon 50mm f 1.4.

Now, there are times when the photographer will have to make us of the largest aperture.

When photographers cross the f/1.8 line, focusing becomes very hard to maintain.One motion or shake will change the point of focus. This is also the reason why using manual focus in this aperture range is very hard.

The Ultrasonic Motor definitely helps in assorted situations and makes the regular AF motor eat its dust.

One situation, where the USM feature can be of great use, is a sports game. There is a need for fast shooting when it comes to sports. It only takes a millisecond to ruin a perfect shot. Thus, it is significant to anticipate and have focusing at top of mind. The USM feature is also very handy when one is shooting wildlife. The reason behind this is essentially the same as with sports games. Something much different is shooting in low light situations.

You will have to focus on the subject properly before you can get usable images. The difficulty in preventing blurring from occur when it is dark and you only have manual focus is there.

Retro designs seem to be the latest thing when it comes to high-end point-and-
shoot cameras, and Fujifilm is helping to lead the pack with its rather
limited (and pricey) X100. The company's just-announced X10, however, appears
to expand upon its well-received cousin with a mighty fast f/2-2.8, 28-112mm
manual zoom lens with a proprietary "Electron Beam Coating" that promises
excellent image quality, even at the edge of the frame. The camera features a
black magnesium alloy housing -- we have to admit, it's a very elegant look.
There's also a 12 megapixel EXR CMOS sensor with sensitivity up to ISO 12,800,
1080p video, an optical viewfinder, 10 fps continuous shooting (7 fps at full
res), a pop-up flash, and a full-size hot shoe. Advanced photogs will
appreciate the shooting mode, focus mode and exposure compensation dials,
along with dedicated buttons to adjust a variety of other settings, including
activating RAW capture. Fuji is mum on price, but we're certain to get an
