Great Digital Cameras
With technology moving at its present rate, it is very difficult to say which one is the best cheap digital camera. The best camera is one that fulfills your requirements. There are many companies that sell good quality low priced cameras. Most well known companies sell a reasonably priced model that suits universal, daily photography. Along with some high quality digital cameras there are also some reasonably priced digital SLR cameras. The top of the range digital SLR cameras are often used by professional photographers as they combine the advantages of both digital and analogue technology. The SLR models which are aimed at the budget market at still extremely good quality and retail for a little more than the standard digital models but are often well worth the extra investment.
Panasonic is a company that produces a variety of high quality fairly priced products. Their Lumix range could be argued to include the best cheap digital camera. The DMCFX35 is a great camera which is compact, robust and gives great picture quality. This product is by no means the ultimate in low priced cameras. You should choose a camera that suits your requirements.
The size of the camera might be your priority. The prices of compact cameras are increasing because day by day the digital cameras are getting smaller in size. The priorities of some people might be the picture quality whereas for some the number of pixels a unit can produce might be important. A 2 or 3 mega pixels camera might be enough only if you are not planning to enlarge the picture to a great extent. If you just want to take snaps and keep it on the digital camera then 2 or 3 mega pixels will be enough. The best cheap digital camera in this case will probably be quite reasonably priced as they tend to go up in price with the increase of mega pixels. If you find that you usually take pictures which are posed for, or scenic photographs, then the speed that the camera takes to reach ready may not be an issue. If, however, you want to be able to take photographs spontaneously and quickly, you will want a camera that is ready for action when you need it. Perhaps you have young children, in which case you cannot always ask them to wait before they do something cute or amazing.
There are some great websites available which will be able to give you some details reviews of various cameras which are on the market. The cameras on the websites are normally ranked by its price which will help you find out which one is the best cheap digital camera that suits your needs. Then you can visit various stores and find the best price offered. Remember, a particular model may not be best for two people.

How similar is the Nikon FM10 to old 35mm SLR cameras?
I want a new slr and this model is still pretty new. But I want to know how similar it is to the old cameras. I know that it is made of plastic. I need to know if everything is controlled by a knob or if there anything is automatic. It would be helpful if you could compare it to the Canon AE-1P. Thank you.
FM-10 is actually a model made by Cosina and marketed by Nikon. The camera has everything basic in it that's needed.
Some features-
Fully manual camera.
Flash sync 1/125
Depth of field button
Multiple exposure lever.
Shutter speed from 1 to 1/2000 sec with Bulb mode.
Center weighted metering
Mechanical shutter.
Viewfinder has a matt focusing screen with split screen and prism collar in the center.
Metering is displayed in the viewfinder as three LED's in red and green using '+' 'o' and '-' symbols.
The features it lacks-
Spot metering and evaluative metering modes.
Aperture priority and Shutter priority modes.
The problems with this model -
Metering error at lower shutter speeds when ISO is changed to anything above 100. It's due to a simple method of setting the ISO. There's a way around it that can be easily mastered on using the camera.
Viewfinder is set to around -1 Diopter (useful in slight myopes to people with normal eye-sight) and so for people with other power corrections (glasses), it's difficult to use.
The kit lens (35-70) is not optically very good.
There's nothing automatic in it apart from the mechanical timer that can be used as a mirror up and timer to release the shutter on its own (if you consider this automatic).
Compared to Canon AE-1P this is a very basic model but it's compatible with almost every Nikon lens (except some very old Nikkors and new Nikkor DX lenses) made.
A slightly better model than FM-10 is Nikon FM-2 which has been discontinued but you might find it used and in good condition.
New MIT video camera shoots a trillion frames per second (Gizmag Emerging Technology Magazine)
We've been hearing about trillions in the news so much lately, it's easy to
become desensitized to just what a colossal number that is. Recently, a team
of brilliant researchers at MIT's Media Lab (ML) built an imaging system
capable of making an exposure every picosecond- one _trillionth_ of a second.
Just how fast is that? Why, a thousand times faster than a nanosecond, of
course. Put another way, one picosecond is to one second as one second is to
about 31,700 years. That's fast. So fast, in fact, this system can literally
slow down light itself and it does so in a manner unlike any other camera...
